Some New Interesting Updates to Google Classroom

July 3, 2015
Google Classroom has recently released a bunch of new updates. Most important of which is Classroom share button that will enable students and teachers to ‘seamlessly assign or turn-in links, videos and images from another webpage or product without having to leave the website they are on'. Up till now, over 20 educational content and tool providers have already committed to integrating the Classroom share button (e.g PBS, Quizlet, Duolingo, Discovery Education, American Museum of Natural History…).

Another important update to Google Classroom is the Classroom API which will allow admins to manage classes at scale and enable developers to create add-ons for Classroom.  The creators Doktopus, have already created a Classroom add-on called RosterSync. This app allows ‘ Google Apps for EDU domain administrators to create and update teachers’ Google Classroom courses and rosters directly from their student information system.’

Other updates announced by Classroom include:

Whitelist domains:
This is expected to be released over the coming weeks. With this new feature, you will be able to ‘whitelist other Google Apps for Education domains so students, teachers or staff in different domains can effectively work together in Drive and Classroom.’

Mobile Classroom notifications:
This is another feature expected in the next few weeks. It will allow students to get notifications on their iOS and Android devices informing them of their new assignment, grades, notes etc.

Re-use previous posts:
Staring next August, teachers will be able to re-use the assignments and other materials from old classes.
